What is a Vocation?

A vocation is a calling from God. We all have a vocation. We were called by God into existence, called to be His child, called to receive his love and to return our love to him. God called our first parents to intimate communion with Himself, and clothed them with resplendent grace and justice. Though we often fail Him, yet God never stops inviting us.

The word “vocation” usually refers to a religious vocation. The Holy Spirit inspires some of God’s children to follow His Son Jesus as He lived, poor, chaste and obedient, to give their entire heart to Him. This vocation is always a response of the heart to the Lord’s love.
